On July 2nd, the European Commission unveiled the Quantum Europe Strategy, a bold plan to position Europe as a global leader in quantum innovation. The strategy emphasizes industrial adoption, advanced infrastructure, and the development of a competitive quantum ecosystem across computing, sensing, communications, and cryptography.
Quantum technologies have the potential to transform industries, from healthcare and energy to finance, logistics, and cybersecurity. Yet Europe faces a critical challenge: a widening quantum skills gap. While infrastructure and funding are essential, they alone cannot ensure leadership. Engineers, scientists, business leaders, and policymakers need quantum fluency – the ability to understand, evaluate, and apply quantum technologies in real-world contexts.
The Quantum+ project is tackling this challenge by creating a higher education curriculum focused on quantum technologies and their practical business applications. By equipping the next generation of professionals with the skills to build, adopt, and manage quantum solutions, Quantum+ bridges the gap between cutting-edge research and industrial deployment.
