Bizkaia presents an ambitious roadmap endorsed by the European Commission for the industrial application of quantum technology and consolidate the positioning of Bizkaia at the forefront of this sector.
Quantum technology is an emerging disruptive technology whose development has applications in all sectors, from finance, energy or telecommunications, to medicine, mobility, chemistry or advanced manufacturing.
Since 2021 the Provincial Council of Bizkaia has generated and nurtured an ecosystem in this field formed by universities, technology and research centers, large international technology corporations, companies, clusters, startups and public administrations. This ecosystem is the basis on which Biqain has been designed, which will concentrate in the María Goyri building of the technology park located on the Leioa campus of the UPV/EHU all the knowledge of Bizkaia in quantum technology. The aim is to continue with applied research, technological development and innovation in this field and for companies to carry out projects and experiment with quantum.
Biqain offers two types of support services to companies. Those at nascent levels will be encouraged to establish initial contacts and develop the first use cases with specialized advice and access to computers, while large technology operators will help companies with more advanced knowledge to transform themselves and create their own quantum technology departments. The aim is to connect supply and demand, so that both SMEs and large tractor companies in Bizkaia begin to experiment in this field, learn about the possibilities it offers and can create and test innovative market solutions.
Likewise, training and qualification services will be provided for companies and literacy laboratories open to the whole society will be included.
During their stay in Bilbao, the Quantum+ consortium had the opportunity to meet with Biqain’s managers.
